Absolutely wonderful post by Kat over at FabFree, a favorite blog and blogger of mine. Please visit Fabfree, like this post, and considering supporting the group, they provide a great community service for designers and customers alike, and now me! =)
Hello there, Fabulouses, and Happy April! It’s always so exciting to have a new month roll around, so my pal Ripley and I can dust off his tracking harness and hit the trail. My outfit today is from an April hunt that is not only fun, but also works to raise awareness about Autism, which affects 1 in 50 children. I am so happy to do my part to support MixMatchMissy with this endeavor. Her goal with this hunt is to encourage people to “pay it forward by thinking of how you can assist at least one person with autism into feeling safe, included, and valued.” If you’d like to learn more about Autism or the Grow Your Awareness Hunt, please take a moment to visit MixMatchMissy’s blog post about the topic.
Rockin’ the Polka Dots
This adorable crimson frock with white polka dots from Thirteen is just simply adorable! …
As promised I bring you a hunt preview, well just one item, but reason enough to get down to The Free Dove and poke around looking for hidden treasure. This month’s hunt participators are Chop Zuey, Loorde’s of London, and EccentriciXi. I’ve chosen a dress from one of them to show off, but all three did a fantastic job with their hunt gifts this month. I’ve paired the dress with some stuff that’s not hunt related, including, *le gasp* a different skin than I normally wear! Of course, my glasses aren’t actually in The Free Dove, but a message or notecard to me will land you free pair sent directly to you. So without further ado, I present you with my Free Dove Challenge look #8.
There’s just something about lace overlay on satin that just catches my fancy. When I was sitting around surrounded by the bags and boxes of my hunt loot, overwhelmed with my choice, my mind kept sneaking back to this little dress from EccentriciXi. The store is fairly new to me, so I had to go do my usual on the ground research for reporting back to you. The main store is organized like two towers, each area of the tower is organized and the name is at the bottom, to find the deals, follow the 60L Secret sale arrows towards the back, and then there’s an area of New Releases, Promos, & Deals. On the second landing of that area, there are 3 boxes of free items for new avatars 30 days or less, at the top are the sales items, including a Blacklace TGIF. There is also a discount store at The Free Dove Plaza.
I ventured into just one of the skins folders in that huge box of goodies from Dulce Secrets that’s at the Free Dove and is just loaded with everything. I like the “vanilla” base color, so I just filtered for that shade. I used the Slink Applier to put the vanilla skin on my Slink body, then had several options to choose to show with my standard head. That left me with a ton of options still! Each skin design had a few makeup colors even. I eventually settled on “::DS:: Kenzi.Vanilla.Green Field (V)” But there are several options for this skin in not only makeup shades, but also base skin tones. I’ve left it bare with no other makeup options to show it off. Omega appliers are also included. I think I will have to make time soon to make a tag just for items from this huge box of goodies so you can see just the small slice of the goodies inside that I’ve featured! But for now, you will have to just rely on my general Dulce Secrets tag, to show you the variety of things from this store that have been featured, including group gifts, sales, dollarbies, advents, and stuff I’ve bought just because of love.
These strappy shoes were the perfect purple to match up with the mini hunt dress. The EC Ribbon of Hope Purple shoes is a standing gift set out at The Free Dove from Emerald Couture. There’s a slink high and an unrigged pair in the box. I googled the purple awareness ribbon and found this “Purple typically represents pancreatic cancer. It is also a symbol for Alzheimer’s disease, lupus, animal abuse, Crohn’s disease, cystic fibrosis, fibromyalgia, sarcoidosis awareness, thyroid cancer, ADD (Attention Deficit Disorder), and religious tolerance.” One thing that I discovered while blogging Emerald Couture stuff, is that the designer is the owner and designer of Shoed-diction as well! I discovered and blogged about the features of the Emerald Couture main store back in the Fall, in this post here.
Since the look really didn’t need a bunch of accessories this is all folks! From the top of my head to my peeping out toes everything can be found at the Free Dove, but the dress will vanish by the start of April, so if it caught your eye, head on down to the Free Dove, turn on that group tag, and hunt up the lollipops scattered around the store! To snag some shoes, jewelry, and clothes from Loordes of London look for the easter eggs, and some jewelry and accessories from Chop Zuey you can find the white boxes! Remember each store that participates in the mini hunt at The Free Dove also has a few gifts to seek and find at their own main stores, so head on down and scoop em all up!

Atlanta beach pie does me make do a happy dance, and no it’s not a lemon merengue. Honestly, I really didn’t make this pie up just to do pie puns, although it does open the door, which I will boldly march through. Atlanta Beach Pie is a real thing, and it will make you say oh my. It’s this absolutely heavenly mix and sweet and salt and bright and rich, and, well, I’ll just direct you to the recipe. It’s one thing I miss about living in North Carolina that’s for sure when I didn’t have to make it myself when I had a craving. What does Atlanta Beach Pie have to do with Second Life Fashion? The beach and the pie of course! I just happened to link you a delicious recipe as a bonus.
Anyway, food dreams aside, one of the first things I do when I log in on Friday is to check my Fly Buy Friday’s HUD. Please note that the marketplace link only works during an active sale, so if you see this after Sunday, you’ll have to go into a participating store and subscribe for next week! But trust me you really want a piece of this action. If it wouldn’t hurt the fillings of all the other great designers who participate in this sale, I would have been disappointed that it wasn’t Pie Buy Fridays because honestly, I rarely miss a weekend when Pink Cream Pie is participating, and that’s what I call it in my head anyway. This week’s offerings are exclusive tie versions of one of my favorite original mesh tanks, the Lucy Tank. I limited myself to just one, the Jolly Rancher Tie Dye, but there are 10 color variations available, or if you can’t pick, you can get all 10 in one HUD for 500L. The Lucy Tank comes sized for Maitreya, both Slinks and all 3 Bellezas.
Pie Got Lucky!
It’s been a few weeks now But Petite Mort and Oubliette VIP groups formed into one group and moved to a new gorgeous sim, Witchwood. Even better is that the new group is still FREE to join! I had to pay 75 lindens back in my day to join just Petite Mort, so this is a great time-limited deal. However, both stores still have lucky boards and the new consolidated group gets you access to both sets. I won these Medium Wash Flap Pocket Denim shorts off of a lucky board on the Petite Mort side. They also come sized for Maitreya, both Slinks, and all 3 Bellezas.
Another Free Group?!
No matter how you slice it, two groups who normally have fees to join being mentioned in the same post is pretty great news. Pr!tty currently has suspended their group join fee. This super cute windblown precision bob, Demy, is 1 of 5 group gifts that are available. There is also an optional bangs in the pack that I opted not to wear. This and all the other group gifts include all of the color HUDs. Additionally, there are several group lucky letter boards to try your hand at, the store was really busy when I went in and I didn’t win any yet, but it’s on my list of things to go back to!
Gotta Keep the Sun Out of My Pies
I found these unisex glasses on the Marketplace from the Cremosas store for just 100 lindens. They have a hud of 50 colors, a resize pair (that doesn’t go very small, I’m wearing them on min size) and you can edit the color on the texture screen. I did edit them via select face and added black to make them sunglasses. But 100 lindens for such a good and versatile pair of eyewear is still a great find!
I guess my pie puns definitely were a bit crusty this time, I know I used that before, but this time I really mean it! This time my nut filling was definitely oozing out. They still suck? I guess it’s time to eat my humble pie and end this post, with the usual disclaimer. Anything not discussed has been blogged before, consult the style card at the end!
Hair: Pr!tty “Damy” -group gift/group temporarily FREE to join
Pose by Kokoro -Group Gift “Luck”. I’m either crossing my fingers that Spring will actually come soon, or I’m flipping off the snow, depending on how closely you look at it. However, both apply!
The first day of Spring has passed, but it sure doesn’t feel much like it, especially for those on East Coast getting hammered by these Nor’Easters. Still slipping into my warm clothing so I don’t freeze my tuckus off. So even though I’ve been dreaming of Spring quite often in Second Life, today I felt a bit like keeping the chill off. I’ve got a lucky board item that anyone can snag, a group gift, and a new-me discount hair from Truth to show off today.
It’s well known that I spend quite a bit of time down at Sn@tch fishing, rioting, shopping, some hunts, events, basically just everything. So I’m usually around to snag the lucky boards when the M pops up. There’s 10 there and you don’t need to join the group to win them, and as a bonus, they are located right next to the riot vends, so if you get double lucky you may get in on one where we hit rock bottom and walk away with a ton of FREE and cheap snags. Or, finally buy that 7 seas fishing pole, and real in whatever the custom prizes are that day (changed every 2 weeks) while watching the boards, and the riot vends!
I won this “Willora Argyle Dress” on one of those Sn@tch filled days. It comes with a HUD to choose 1 of 8 of for the colored diamonds. There’s a few sizes in the box:
Standard Sizes XS-L (alpha if needed)
Slink – Hourglass and Physique
There’s really not a whole lot to say about the rest, basically because I’ve covered both Truth and Earthstones so many times, even if the chosen items today are new to the blog. My boots are unavailable, and my makeup has all been blogged before, so I guess today’s look is pretty much yawn city as far as writing about it goes, looks great on though! I’ll cut it short and leave all the rest of the details in the style card!
Hair: Truth “Tammy – crow” -50L (entire blacks and whites pack)
It seems unfair of me to call this look a challenge because really it’s just 3 boxes of things, 4 counting my skin. And while at least for this post, there are no March Free Dove Mini Hunt items shown, I am wearing one of the special St. Patrick’s Day items set up on the seasonal platform, which is to the left of the jewelry from the main landing point. I’m mentioning this area because, even I sometimes forget to check that area for each Holiday, and even less when I actually get to blog it on time. However, skin aside, which I always have to remind myself about because it’s always there, everything I am wearing today is NEW to The Free Dove! And of course, everything at The Free Dove is a group gift , and the group is FREE to join, so this and all my other Free Dove Challenge posts are 100% FREE to anyone, mesh body aside.
It’d only been less than 2 full weeks since I’d been inside The Free Dove when I was starting to seek out the mini-hunt items, but when I was in there last night again to seek out the inspiration for my look, there were just simply loads of new things. I walked out with so many new bags and boxes that I was having a hard time choosing one. But, I was sitting there in my skybox rental, and for no reason when I changed over the last time from a blank box that I used my photo studio in, I chose the fishing cabin scene. Well, ok, maybe I chose it because He is an outdoorsy sort, and I thought he’d enjoy it. But sitting there, mentally running over what I’d picked up, my mind settled on this cute little overalls set. It’s kind of the perfect mesh for me being there in his outdoorsy world, appropriate, but just with that extra flash of style.
So the top, pants, bracelet, and shoes are part of one gift from Composer Girls Fashion. This is a new to me designer, so I went to nose around the main store to get the scoop to put here on the blog. So here’s what I discovered. Most items come as complete outfits like this one did, bonus. There’s one set that you can buy as a mix-n-match, totally LOVE this idea for some reason *innocent look*. They have a discount store at The Free Dove Plaza, again love. There is a free for anyone outfit available, as well as gifts for the Sexy Fashionable Gorgeous Me, Avantguardista, and Mesh Avatar Appearance Maniacs groups as well as this and another Free Dove offering. Also, there is a group gift (pay 1 get 1), and the group is FREE to join! With everything being full outfits this is a ton of generosity! Pop in and check out this really cute store, you won’t regret it!
This adorbs very Missy hair; dark, shiny, straight, precision cut, is just one of three new gift hairs from Posh Couture at The Free Dove! The “Kiko Mesh Hair” gift comes with the darks hud. I blogged another gift hair at The Dove from this designer of yesterday, but since that post was gargantuan, I didn’t write up the store, I’m doing that now! I found myself wandering into this huge, bright, modern shop. There’s everything from head to toe in the shop. With two blogs in a row, I’m definitely one of their new hair fans! The Posh Couture group is 500L to join, and I didn’t get all the details, but there are at least a monthly group gift and VIP sales for grou members. The store also participates in my 60 Linden Secret grid wide sale, as well as 70 Linden weekends; today there was one offering for 60 Linden Secret, and 2, a hair and lingerie, for 70 Linden Weekends. They are also participating in the Darkness Inside 2 Hunt.
My hand just wasn’t doing enough to keep the sun out of my eyes, so I popped on this pair of green sunglasses that is out as a seasonal/holiday gift from Prism. I also find it super fun that there is a top of the head version of these too, you know, how we wear them pushed up when the shade isn’t needed. It was my also my first visit to Prism, and I found it to be full of classic fashion. There was a marketplace link next to the desk that led to some dollarbie gifts and promotionally priced items. They are also, excitingly, and I need to get my butt moving on this hunt, participating in the Steam VIII Hunt.
And that’s it for my 7th Free Dove challenge, as I didn’t put any makeup on over my Avi-Glam Anna skin that I always wear that’s from The Free Dove. This challenge has 2 brand new designers that have joined the Free Dove team, with brand new gifts if you’ve not been down to the store lately! I’m thinking my next one will feature items from the March Mini-Hunt, so stay tuned, it should be in just a few days, so I can get caught up on my complete look posts!
This piece is based loosely on the Italian fairy tale Catherine and Her Destiny. Melissa’s mother was given the choice in my tale and her choices affect how Melissa’s fate is determined. Melissa, however, learns how to take destiny into her own hands with a little magical assistance. Lovers of Jane Austen will also note that this is an imagining of Pride and Prejudice as a fairy tale.
One day Destiny appeared to the daughter of a successful attorney. Destiny asked the maiden if she would rather be happy in her youth or in her old age. The girl, unable to envision herself as old, chose youth. Soon the maiden met a handsome, wealthy, landed gentleman who became enamored of her beauty and lively spirits. He begged for her hand in marriage, and they soon were wed, elevating her sphere in society. He carried her off to a fine estate in the country where they lived merrily and had many children.
One day, when the woman was about thirty, she was again brought to bed. After many hours of struggle, the mother was left weak and torn, and the babe, a large boy, was stillborn. The woman had never before experienced sorrow. She was mean of understanding, further having spent her youth in frivolous diversions she had little education and was unable to cope. She developed an uncertain temper and fancied herself with a nervous disposition.
But the sorrows had only just begun. Over the years the income of the estate began to steadily fall, disaster after disaster came to their lands. In her attempts to console herself she spent more than they could afford; even using up her daughters’ dowries, which would aid them in securing men of worth as husbands. One day her sons had been out visiting the tenants when a violent wind blew a tree into the tenant’s house, crushing it, killing them all. Eventually, her own husband withdrew his affection and only encountered her to tease and torment.
In a dreadful bitterness of spirit, the woman climbed to the top of the nearby Oakham Mount and cried out to Destiny. Destiny appeared and informed her that she would one day grant her a measure of peace through the marriages of her daughters. However, in return, one of her daughters would receive the mother’s destiny, happiness in youth but not in old age; and another would receive the opposite. The woman, thinking only of herself, chose her youngest to live out her destiny, and her least favorite daughter, the second eldest, to live out the opposite. She felt it would bring her comfort to witness the happiness of her youngest, and not vex her too dearly to witness her second eldest suffer.
The woman returned home and called the two daughters before her and explained her bargain with Destiny. The youngest, who was the image of her mother, exclaimed that it would be grand. She confidently and assertively declared that she would enjoy her youth, vowing she would be the first of all her sisters to marry. The second eldest, who was of superior intellect, listened carefully to what her mother had said and began to plot.
Destiny was true to her word. The youngest daughter was pampered and petted, receiving anything she wished. Tragedies and sorrows followed the second eldest. But Destiny had miscalculated, for the second daughter, Melissa, had a strength of spirit that did not allow her to remain unhappy for long. Destiny tried harder, and one day after having Melissa insulted by a wealthy, handsome lord, nearly succeeded.
The next morning Melissa traveled to the top of Oakham mount to confront Destiny. When she reached the summit she called out and Destiny appeared before her.
“Destiny, it has been several years now, do not make me continue to suffer for the choices of my mother. Please, please allow me to see some happy days.” Melissa humbly requested.
Destiny did not want to completely relent, but she was moved by the manner of Melissa’s request, which even in its simplicity was utterly charming. She decided on a compromise. She reached into her pocket and withdrew a magical book, which she handed to Melissa.
“I will not relent easily,” Destiny declared. “I will still send events to plague you, and I will cause confusion in your mind to hide the opportunities for happiness. However, I will give you a magic book to help. Read it, and it will show the way to find happiness.”
Melissa thanked Destiny. She noted the book was named Kismet before she placed it in her reticule. She descended Oakham Mount determined to read as soon as was possible.
The book was indeed magical, each time she opened it something new was written on the pages. Some days it held novels, others poetry, others philosophy, the possibilities were endless. On the day she went to an evening party at a neighbor’s home, where the arrogant lord was also in attendance, it was a collection of wise, old sayings. She read faithfully every day, searching for answers on controlling her own happiness, but found it contained none. Destiny still seemed in control. Melissa didn’t realize how what she read was not only increasing her knowledge but was influencing and shaping her conversations with others enhancing her already charming manners.
One day her beloved older sister fell ill at a neighboring estate. She went to nurse her sister and took the book with her. She even read it while spending an evening in the drawing room with her hosts. That night it contained the observations on the picturesque, which gave her some personal satisfaction when she was able to recall it in as a way to beg off a situation obviously meant to exclude her, saving face. Yet still nothing improved; the arrogant lord remained critical of her, leading to a few confrontations, which while disguised as playful banter in her opinion were rather factual and cutting. Her mother arrived to check on her sister’s health and vexed and embarrassed her with her display of nerves and ignorant statements. The ladies of the house, while maintaining a cold civility, attempted at every opportunity to show how inferior she, as lesser poor gentry, was to the lord and his connections and continued to look down upon her.
The days after she and her sister returned home she did not have a chance to read. Her foolish cousin came to visit and her mother was continuously demanding that she be in his company. During this time she met a charming, handsome militia officer who seemed much taken with her and she wondered if Destiny was tricking her about the book. The first good thing to happen to her was on a day she hadn’t read it! She vowed not to read again for several days. Therefore, Melissa did not read before attending a ball at the neighboring estate. However, on this day, nothing good happened. Her favorite militia officer did not attend, she was forced to dance with the arrogant lord, and her family, excepting her older sister, made an absolute spectacle of themselves.
The next day she carried the book with her, determined to see if it would tell her how to find her happiness. She hadn’t yet opened it when at breakfast her cousin demanded a private audience and proposed marriage in a most insulting manner! She refused. When her mother found out she abused her dreadfully and ran to her husband to force Melissa’s acceptance. In desperation, Melissa pulled out the book and read while her mother was in with her father. To her surprise, it only contained three words “I have, Sir.” She used these exact words when her father called her into the study to discuss the marriage proposal. To her relief, he did not make her marry her cousin.
Melissa, in her agitation over the events, did not realize she had spoken the words from the book. Therefore, she did not read the next day. Her sister received a note that her beau had left the country! When Melissa did again read the book, she discovered her favorite militia officer had transferred his attentions to a young heiress. Angry at Destiny having tricked her, she hid the book away in a drawer, convinced of its uselessness.
Over the next few months, she only opened the book twice, because at times it really did have interesting reading. On the first day, her Aunt and Uncle invited her on a pleasure trip. On the second, a friend she had quarreled with came to invite her to visit her new home in another country at Eastertide. Nonetheless, after that day, the book sat in the drawer for several weeks, where she found it while packing for her trip. On a whim, she decided to bring it with her.
A few weeks into her visit, she became bored and took out the book to entertain herself. That day the hateful lord who had insulted her came into the country and even went as far as to call upon her. Irritated, she didn’t read it again for a week, when once again she was compelled by boredom. She read it on the days they were entertained at the nearby great manor where the hateful, arrogant lord was residing. She read it on the days she only walked in the park, often encountering the arrogant lord. She did not read it the morning a colonel gave her knowledge of the arrogant lord’s role in interfering with her sister’s romance with his friend. That night the arrogant, hateful lord shocked her by offering an even more insulting marriage proposal than the first she had received. She abused him verbally while she rejected him, despite his elevated status and great wealth. She was flabbergasted that he loved her, for she was sure he always looked at her with disdain. After the emotional encounter, she read the book in order to calm her mind for sleep.
The next morning the arrogant lord gave her a letter. As she read it she remembered how Destiny had told her that she would be plagued with unhappiness due to her own mind. Oh, how blind she had been! Her vanity due to being insulted had led her to a prejudice against the lord which shaped her opinion of their interactions. She realized that Kismet had been leading her to happiness with the handsome lord, and she had seen only Destiny’s tricks. She vowed that she would read the book daily from now on. Destiny knew that she could no longer fool Melissa into doubting the book’s power. However, Destiny was not yet willing to surrender. She still had some control over events.
Melissa never again failed to read the book every day. Destiny and Kismet continued to battle over Melissa’s happiness. Destiny felt she scored a victory over shortening Melissa’s pleasure trip, but Kismet only smiled and set the destination to the handsome lord’s country. Destiny countered by arranging for the handsome lord to be away, so Kismet had the lord’s steward send him a letter urging him home early. Angered, Destiny pulled her nastiest trick yet, combining Melissa’s fate with that of her youngest sister, and arranging for her to scandalously elope with the handsome man’s enemy, the same deceitfully charming militia officer that once captured Melissa’s attention. They resided together yet unmarried. This would ruin her family’s reputation, and ensure that they would be shunned by all society.
Destiny was proud of her genius. She could keep the mother to the original bargain, as this scandal would ensure that none of her daughters would ever marry. This would also keep Melissa at home with her vexing mother, ensuring she would be unhappy until her old age. Destiny was smug and decided she had earned a rest.
Kismet did not relent, she worked constantly to allow Melissa happiness, including allowing the handsome lord to hide the scandal and ensure Melissa’s sister’s marriage to the reprehensible militia officer, and that the marriage was in all ways respectable in the eyes of the society. When Destiny realized this, she caused the handsome lord to doubt Melissa’s regard. Kismet countered by arranging the betrothal of the eldest sister to the handsome lord’s friend, guaranteeing Melissa would always be thrown in his path. Destiny retaliated by spreading a rumor to the handsome man’s aunt. Surely, thought Destiny, he will give up all hope in the light of his family’s displeasure in the match. Enraged, the aunt traveled to Melissa’s country to confront her.
That morning Melissa had read a story in her book that gave her confidence in a way that emboldened her spirit and sharpened her mind. When the Aunt arrived, Melissa did not relent to her arguments and countered them admirably and intelligently. She would not promise to refuse to marry the handsome lord and had even praised him by saying that any wife of his would have no cause to repine.
Angered, the Aunt immediately went to the handsome lord, and complained about Melissa, giving the full details, including Melissa’s audacity to praise him, as if she were his equal. The handsome lord listened attentively and began to feel hope that just maybe Melissa did have high regard for him now. The revelations spurred him to return to Melissa’s country and see if he could observe this regard himself.
The handsome lord did return to Melissa. After some timid encounters with each other, one morning they set out on a walk towards Oakham Mount. During this walk, they finally became engaged to be married. They continued walking once they had settled upon their future, absorbed each other’s company, and soon were at the top of Oakham Mount, where Destiny appeared to Melissa.
“Melissa,” said Destiny. “As you have found happiness in your youth, I am no longer your destiny, for it is now determined that you will live happily ever after.”
And she did.
I sincerely hope that you enjoyed my retelling of a fairy tale and a beloved novel. I haven’t included a fictional story in my posts in quite a while, and it was always something that I had intended to do. However, I do always talk about the clothes. But this will be a rather long blog post if I do my usual in-depth discussion of them. Once again I will be providing an annotated style card with all the details.

In case you were ever wondering what the seemingly nonsense are in the Laverne & Shirley theme song, they are actually Yiddish. Shlemiel meaning a stupid, awkward, or unlucky person, and Shlimazel being a close synonym at a consistently unlucky or accident-prone person. I love that show, I remember watching reruns as a kid, and always laughing. Even though Shirley always had Carmine as a boyfriend, it always seemed an immature relationship, even to me as a kid. Of course, that immaturity was very obvious with Shirley’s attachment to Booboo Kitty. Fun fact about Booboo Kitty’s origin. It was originally a blooper, when Cindy Williams forgot her line about dust bunnies, and pulled out a stuffed cat from under the bad and called it the name of her mother’s cat, Booboo Kitty. Everyone loved it and it eventually turned into Shirley having an actual relationship with the stuffed toy. Not that Booboo Kitty wasn’t awesome, it was. Gotta love this commercial of Shirley and Booboo Kitty from Nick at Night!
Really Rockabilly! Has a recent release, I would say new, if I hadn’t been a Shlemiel and got it blogged earlier! These hot little shorts and bustier in a fantastic black and pink design are covered with Booboo kitties! The matching mesh scarf is included. It comes in tons of sizes:
Slink -Physique and Hourglass
Tonic Fine and Curvy
Belleza -Freya, Isis, and Venus
I totally love it! I’ve been waiting for a great summer Rockabilly look, and of course, always love anything whimsical. Zef Brody, the owner, and designer for Really Rockabilly always teases me about my breast size, and I remembered the above commercial from Nick at Night long ago, with Shirley stuffing her dress, and while mine isn’t stuffed, sometimes I feel people view my avatar that way! FYI, Really Rockabilly! is a designer for the Grow Your Awareness Hunt that I am organizing for April.
My shoes I’ve blogged before, and I think I remember mentioning that the Alyce Slink Mary Jane’s had an RGB hud that is included as well as the HUD of colors and patterns. If I didn’t then I was remiss, they have it! Zef was kind enough to give me the RGB for the pink in the Booboo kitty outfit design so I was able to perfectly match these fun retro shoes. That RGB is red 185, green 68, blue 89, hue 349, sat 46, lum 50. Of course, I picked the black laces and heels on the hud, as the choice was either black or white, no rgb here.
My hair is unavailable, I picked it up as a gift at an event last winter, and couldn’t find it in the store or mp, and a notecard to the designer remained unanswered. It was a blonde hair, but I wanted to note that Tameless often allows hair to be colored via the edit screen so I was able to choose black and transform the blonde into my usual color.
Everything else, except my glasses, has been blogged before, and I want to talk about my glasses. I started an in-world group for my blog, for chat, sharing of freebies and deals, and a little clubhouse. In the clubhouse, I have set up a photo booth, with colored lights, 3 different spotlights to make those fun shadows that turn off and on, and a pose stand with over 300 poses. Additionally, if you ask in chat, there’s a sits and a stands pose stand that myself can help you with if needed for some pics! All the information for the Grow Your Awareness Hunt is located here, along with group joiners for a few groups that specialize in freebies that I discuss, such as FabFree and The Free Dove. But the best part is that I designed these special shiny mauve glasses, with metal studs as a group gift. Hop down to Missy’s Getaway, enjoy the furniture, the photo studio, and pick up these glasses for yourself! They are copy and modify so you can get the perfect shape, or shade them darker if you wish. The group is FREE to join, making the glasses FREE, and the use of all 300+ poses for your pics FREE! Now there’s no excuse not to head down to The Free Dove, pick out an outfit, head to my photo studio and snap a pic and post it to my Facebook and get a care package from me!
My scars were reflecting the mist in your headlights
I looked like a neon zebra shaking rain off her stripes
And the rivulets had you riveted to the places that I wanted you to kiss me when we find some time alone
Fiona Apple –Anything We Want from the Idler Wheel album
Maybe I’m a bit overly deep today. I actually attempted to make a metaphorical look! Since blogging and sort of immersing myself in The Zebra Revolution theme at this month’s Dazzle, this wistful Fiona Apple song keeps running through my head, it’s a beautiful song, you should google it. The song to me, makes me think of a friend, a friend one has been in love with since childhood, he or she keeps rejecting the signals that signify that a deeper relationship is desired. Each rejection piles up, forming scars that we feel are highly visible to any who see us, especially the desired lover. However, we care too much to lose them from our lives, so we take the friendship regardless of the pain. My little spin is that maybe we attempt to hide our scars by a brightness that we don’t feel. Are you shocked that I can reflective instead of just silly? I do generally keep a light and bright style on my blog, and while this look itself is light and bright, the mood I want to convey is how we hide our pain, maybe accept more than we should, by staying that bright and happy person we don’t feel is really ourselves, but what we want to be, while remaining convinced that everyone can see through the act to the scars underneath.
I want to start with the hair by Ali & Ali. It’s actually a FREE gift, it was my job to blog the exclusives! I didn’t even realize until just now either (this is what I get for being deep instead of funny.) But, I’m going to roll with it, as I feel this tousled bob shows off the chaotic nature of our emotional scars. I think the brain is where most of us have the most scars. Even if I unintentionally goofed by filing this in the wrong spot in my folders, the texture is exactly what all the exclusives contain, and there are several styles available to best meet your own desired look. I’m posting the booth so you can see for yourself how many are available, and hopefully, I’ll be able to blog at one more! There are styles for men and women available, and for this unique, punky look they are really low priced at 50 lindens each. There is a resize script included, and you can adjust the color of the white stripes via edit menu. You can find the Ali&Ali stall along the row to the left of the entrance.
Since I just did a close up on my face to show off the hair, I’ll go ahead and explain my makeup choices now. My eyeshadow with liner is a current dollarbie at Dulce Secrets. “::DS:: Deep Embrace Abyss Eyeshadow”. This is a super fantastic dollarbie, as it has all 6 shades in the Embrace Abyss Eyeshadow set, as well as a ruby lipstick. There are standard tattoo layer, Omega, Catwa, LeLutka appliers in the package. I liked how it looked like single tear may have escaped and been caught. For my lips, I chose from the Elise “Nocturne” palette. I went with the bright blue (Nocturne #4) because it is our mouths that most often put out that false brightness. There are 6 shades in the palette, and I blogged the silver one here. The entire set comes with standard tattoo layer, Omega, Catwa, LeLutka, and TMP huds, and costs only 45 lindens.
My outfit is also another moderately priced grab from Dazzle! This bright and wild outfit from Salty! includes both the leggings (which by the way come with an omega applier HUD of 4 bright colors if you don’t like the blue) and the loose and flowy tanktop complimented with a zebra print ribbon under the bust. The tank comes in 5 standard sizes, Maitreya, both Slinks, and all 3 Bellezas. The low price tag comes in at 75 lindens! I have to point how the zebra ribbon under the bust reminds me of the scars on our hearts, and the contrasting leggings our struggle between pain and happiness, but how we’re actually both. Just to let you know, Salty! is the latest generous designer to sign up to be in the Grow your Awareness Hunt that I am organizing next month!
Once again, Dazzle played right into my metaphorical look. I’m wearing the Beloved Jewelry “Animal Choker” and “Animal Cuff Bracelets” They are sold separately with a low price tag of 50 lindens each. Additionally, they come with a texture change script, allowing you to customize between 12 different metals, 7 colors for the faux fur, and 33 accent gems. Beloved Jewelry was one of the original designers who agreed to commit to the Grow Your Awareness Hunt, and helped give me the confidence I needed to approach other designers. I chose to display the bracelets in both the zebra and the light, because the placement of them is where we would apply perfume, and thus the image we project both intentionally and unintentionally eventually reveals the whole person we are, both with darkness and light. As perfume only masks a smell.
On my left, I also stacked the bracelet with some bangles that are included in the FREE gift set out by Moonstar By the Sea at Dazzle. I had plans to blog the dress, but Aline of FabFree beat me to the punch. You can head over to the FabFree blog and see the dress here.
We’ve made it all the way down to my feet! We’re almost to the end. These adorable retro pumps with ankle straps are a FREE gift at The Little Black Dress, along with 8 other fantastic gifts, and the group is FREE to join! The Little Black Dress is the third designer in this post that is joining the GYA hunt as well! These great little shoes come rigged for Slink High, Maitreya, and TMP. I chose these zebra print shoes to work in my metaphorical look, as the foundation of many of our personalities is the scars and experiences that shape our lives.
Exposeur’s 50 linden marketplace sale is still ongoing. I snagged this dark alley that comes with 20 poses and mirrors (all of the poses in this blog are from this set, I didn’t add in any extra this time.) I wanted to show that we usually view ourselves, both the good and bad with tunnel vision, and chose a windlight that added the soft glow at the end of the tunnel (haha you know, the light at the end of the tunnel?)
Whoever thought of poetry in clothing? I’m sorry for being so deep and metaphorical, but I hope it helped improve the look rather than detract from it. It also helped that Dazzle has the zebra theme this month, so it was basically a one stop shop! That’s always nice not to have to pop all over Second Life for a single look. What’s not spoken about has been blogged, so consult the style card!
We started out sipping the water
And now we try to swallow the wave
And we try not to let those bastards get us down
We don’t worry anymore cause we know when the guff comes we get brave
After all, look around
It’s happening, it’s happening, it’s happening now

There’s no limit to how much you’ll know, depending how far beyond zebra you go.
My son adores Dr. Suess books, I guess he gets that from me, because I still adore them myself, just on a different level. He’s really really into spelling right now, and I literally spend all day spelling everything to him, but I’m more than happy to do it, he’ll need these skills for more effective communication as his verbal language is pretty severely limited. Although, he did tell me this morning when I went to help him because his shoes were on the wrong feet “I’m independent!” I agree he’s very independent when it comes to making messes. Something about this dress from Gypsy Chic just said fun and whimsy to me, and Seuss is definitely the master in that department. Just like yesterday, I have a wide variety of ways to find your goodies, with a few 100 lindens or less nabs from Dazzle, a lucky letter, a group gift, and a fishing prize! And that, dear readers, is why I’m smiling.
You’ll have to forgive the old lady in me, I just wasn’t all that comfortable wearing Gypsy Chic’s “Palomma Zebra Dress” without something to cover my bits and bum. I do happen to love it as a tunic top! It’s soft and flowing, bright and cheerful, and the added waist corset adds a touch of earthiness to the colorful Zebra. The Palomma Zebra Dress is an exclusive at the March round of Dazzle and is low priced at 100 lindens. This dress comes sized for Maitreya, both Slinks, all 3 Bellezas, as well as a standard fitted with alpha layer. This round of Dazzle runs through the 25th!
These studded ankle boots are also available from Gyspy Chic in their Dazzle display, and also just 100 lindens. There are also several other colors available if you’re not keen on the white. They come rigged for Maitreya, Slink and Belleza feet. Additionally, it’s a good idea to check out the Gyspy Chic store, for just 5 lindens there are several cute gifts, as well as a gift for The Free Dove group right there in the store, as well as one for FabFree. I’ve been a member of the Gypsy Chic group for a while now, even before being introduced to these fun designs at Dazzle.
Glint is also participating in Dazzle this month, and have yet another exclusive deal for us! This Onyx Zebra Necklace is unisex with its short length, leather cord, beads, and pendant. The beads alternate between black and zebra print and a silver inlay of a Zebra head is set in shiny onyx. There is a resizer script on this fun and casual necklace, making it easy for anyone to wear. It’s also quite low priced at 50 lindens! I’ve talked about Glint very often in this blog, and while it appears that the lucky letters are no longer up, there is 7seas Fishing, as well as credit back on each purchase for group members, and group gifts. Glint also participates in several hunts each month and has a very well organized hunt board with previews and hints clearly displayed. The Glint group is FREE to join! Obviously, I’ve been a member of the Glint group practically forever, and one great feature, which I’ve taken advantage of is customized jewelry. Glint is also taking part in the Grow Your Awareness Hunt that I am organizing for next month!
My sleek bob I also fished up this offering of Sn@tch’s Fish-4-This. I finally completed the set last night, this hair is the last, due to a trade in group chat. There’s also a blonde and a red version fished separately, and I was able to catch many of those before giving up and whining in group chat about it. There is a rigged and an unrigged version. Anyone can fish at Sn@tch with their 7seas Fishing pole, but Sn@tch chat is where the trading and sharing goodness happens. The Sn@tch group is 200 lindens to join.
This super fun backdrop by Po^Z is also at Dazzle! I was drawn to the earthy tones with the pops of color that allowed the zebra print to shine through without being overwhelming. It’s happily also copy/mod. I discovered Po^Z through The Free Dove and struck up a conversation with the designer after I blogged her and dropped a courtesy note. I’m happy to say that’s she’s a very friendly person, and one worthy of my financial patronage, little as it may be. She’s also agreed to participate in the Grow Your Awareness Hunt, much to my delight! Po^Z currently has 4 group gifts available at the main store, including bento poses and a backdrop, and the group is FREE to join!
I snagged these tights by Baby Monkey for just 10L in the marketplace. There 35 colors in the pack, for classic avatar, Slink and Maitreya appliers. They were key in helping this old woman keep her modesty because frankly, no one wants to a see a 41-year-old mom’s flat white butt (even if Slink Hourglass definitely gave me a butt lift!)
The final two touches I have to share today are my ring and bracelet. The blue “Ribbon Ring” is one of several group gifts at Earthstones. I recently, thanks to Kimbra of Beloved, learned a way to make my older rings bento! It’s actually fairly simple, the next time to wish to wear one, use attach to instead of wear, and choose the ring finger option. Now it’ll be floating out in midair when you do this, but step on your pose stand, and using the edit function maneuver the ring to the proper place. The Earthstone‘s group is 250L to join.
Now my bracelet I scored off a lucky chair at Zuri Jewelry I subscribed to this group and they often have fun events and sales. You also don’t need to join the group to play the lucky letters at Zuri! You should pop into Zuri’s for more than the lucky letters though. There’s a two lucky dip type thingies, gifts that are FREE to anyone in the group gift area, including matching earrings for this bracelet, and then there are gifts for the FabFree, Maitreya Gifts and News, Teleport Hub, and Third Life groups, as well as a subscriber gift. I felt this Rayna Cord leather bracelet with the teal accents just went perfectly with this outfit playing on both the leather of Glint’s necklace and the and the spectrum of shading in Gypsy Chic’s zebra.
All my makeup, and of course, my favorite glasses have been previously blogged! Check the style card for every detail!
