During the Great Ox Wars, the Chieftain of the Griffin Clan made a promise to his most loyal knight as the knight lay dying. The Chieftain promised that his heir and eldest son would marry the knight’s newborn daughter when she came of age, and would be raised in the castle with her mother to see to her care and education. The knight was able to die in peace knowing that his small family was going to be well provided for. The betrothal ceremony took place as soon as the Chieftain returned home from battle. The young heir, a strapping lad of 5 years, looked at his future bride swaddled in her blankets and curled his lip in disgust, for not only was she a girl child; she was a red, homely, wrinkled little thing.
Four years passed and the young heir did all that he could to avoid interacting with his future bride. There were times, to the young heir’s chagrin, when nobles of other clans visited when they all must spend the day together. He was not only forced to spend the day with this young betrothed, but he was also stuffed into his best clothing with strict rules not to get dirty. One such day a visiting noble’s son, a brutish 13-year-old, was taunting the younger heir into demonstrating his feats of prowess. In other words, he dared him to walk the fence surrounding the pig pen.
“Syrinx, you musn’t!” Yamei bossily ordered chubby hands firmly on her hips, attempting to raise an eyebrow in judgment as the Chieftain often did. “You’ll be whipped!”
Syrinx shot Yamei a disdainful look, lifted his chin and straightened his spine then marched towards the narrow fence. Yamei followed at his heels buzzing dire predictions of punishment into his ears as only a young girl can. Syrinx climbed on top of the fence, balanced just so, and looked behind him and saw the older lad climb up behind him. Yamei kept speaking so he blocked everything out and focused on reaching the end of the fence. About halfway down the rail he felt it shimmy and heard a thud and the squealing of pigs. He looked back over his shoulder and noticed a defiant Yamei glaring at a sputtering lump of smelly muck.
“Syrinx, why didn’t you listen when I warned you he was going to push you? Oh, I had to stop him, and now the whipping will be mine, but I couldn’t allow you to be dishonored. I am not sorry!” she stamped her little foot in emphasis.
Saying nothing, Syrinx reached down and held her hand and together they walked into the keep. The Chieftain was surprised by seeing Syrinx holding Yamei’s hand, and immediately suspicious as any father would be. He arched his eyebrows and asked where the noble’s child was.
“In the pig pen. He’s the one wearing the hat.” Yamei quipped.
The great hall erupted with the sounds of laughter, and Syrinx wisely snuck Yamei from the room.
After her defense of him, Syrinx began to regard Yamei with less disdain, and almost a sisterly affection. He tolerated her tagging after him constantly asking why. Once she acquired new skills he allowed her to join with him; tending the griffins, riding them. She joined him to practice combat arts and spellcasting with him. However, with their enlightened and natural studies, especially herbology, she eventually surpassed his knowledge despite the 5 year age gap. And so they went until he was 18, and she 13. At 18 his idea of feminine beauty shifted as is wont in young men of his age. He allowed that she wasn’t as ugly as he’d previously regarded her, and despite not having golden curls, her hair was lovely as lovely burnished russet and quite pleasing. However, she was thin and gangly, her eyes too small, her nose too large, and he could do naught but sigh that this was his future wife.
Time passed, with Syrinx often gone between attending Court and being in battle. The wedding was to occur on her 18th birthday. Syrinx had matured, and at 23, while not thrilled with giving up his bachelor ways to commit to one woman, he was ready to shoulder his duty with some peace. The wedding was to be a huge affair as it corresponded with the of the end of long-lasting Great Ox Wars, with Syrinx and his griffin riders playing a large role in the realm’s victory. The King himself was in attendance, along with all the Nobles and thousands of peasants.
On the final night before the wedding, Syrinx was to bed down in the barracks with the other griffin riders as his chamber was being used to house the Prince. After dancing once with Yamei in the sweltering great hall, he snuck out to take a walk around the bailey. As he circled back he witnessed a man pulling a woman into a darkened niche and decided not to interrupt the lovers’ tryst. However, upon hearing Yamei’s name coming from the Prince’s lips, he stopped in his tracks.
“I love you, Yamei. I can give you everything. Come away with me.” the Prince insisted.
Syrinx could see her stiffen due to the imperious manner of the Prince, yet she replied in a sweet tone that did not betray her irritation.
“I am, of course, honored beyond words by your proposal. But, my father’s honor, nay my own honor, cannot allow me to accept your exalted offer. You say you love me now, and so you must also know and love my integrity. Dishonoring my father, the Chieftain, Syrinx, and the loyal Clan of Griffin, would lower my esteem in your eyes, and not bode well for our future felicity.”
“Nay, Yamei! I would only love you more for your sacrifice. Your honor would not be tarnished, as no one would dare judge the future Queen. Nay, they will benefit from your goodness and love you as I do. I do not know why you reject me for a lesser noble who doesn’t even love you.”
Yamei softly sighed and trembled slightly before lifting her chin and replying “ I know he doesn’t love me, I have always known it. You have been a close friend, a companion, one I treasure dearly in my mind, but not in my heart. I have been raised to be his wife, and my loyalty has led me to closely observe him, and I do love him. My love will be enough to keep me happy. If you love me as dearly as you claim, kiss my cheek now, and bless my marriage tomorrow.”
The Prince leaned in and kissed her cheek then walked away. Syrinx was stunned, he had hardly given her notice in the past 5 years, he assumed that she was as indifferent to their union as he was, doing her duty. Instead of returning the great hall and the celebration, he headed to the barracks to absorb and reflect on this new information.
The ceremony was to be at Terce, with a large wedding breakfast to follow, early enough for visiting nobles to depart the keep and allow the servants to prepare the marriage apartments. Syrinx rose and performed his morning ablutions with care. Yamei rose early, and after also dressing with care she went early to the vestry to meditate and pray. When Syrinx arrived to meet her at the chancel, he stopped short upon seeing her in her wedding finery. It was like he was truly seeing her for the first time, and how her peace, goodness, and spirit rendered her truly beautiful and he had never seen it. He was proud when he placed the ancestral diadem upon her head, signifying not only their union but the future guardianship of the clan.
While his father was still living, Syrinx’s mother passed away soon after their marriage. Yamei assumed the role of the heart of the clan. With her loving nature, she cared for the sick, championed the peasants’ welfare, and even personally saw to the education of all the children through afternoon gatherings when all their chores were done. The clan prospered and adored her. However, despite being attracted to and respecting Yamei, Syrinx was not yet in love with her.
When their first son was being born, Syrinx felt pride and concern, as any new father would. As is a clan tradition, a seer accompanied him into the chamber to meet his new son. The seer touched his arm while he gazed upon his infant son and gave him a glimpse into the future. Due to his wife’s love and guidance in his son’s life, his son would be the greatest leader that the Griffon Clan had known, far surpassing Syrinx. When the vision faded, Syrinx looked from his son to his wife’s face noting the joy and love radiating from her face and knew beyond a doubt that he was madly, deeply, and truly not only blessed by but in love with Yamei.
One of my first thoughts, when I thought to organize The Grow Your Awareness Hunt, was that my goal was not to educate what autism is and isn’t. Sure, there’s a checklist of diagnostic criteria which must be met, but what’s not there in that definition is the unlimited ways in which these few symptoms manifest themselves, influence the lives of a person with autism, and the severity of the impact. So, I love the metaphor of autism as a rainbow. A rainbow is bright, beautiful, and complete.
This hunt prize from Moonstar on the Sea is all of these aspects, plus it’s just flat out super fun! Included in this outfit are the bright and sparkly animated wings, the rainbow dress, Omega applier white lace panties, necklace, and bracelet. I did leave off the jewelry in this post so I could bring you news of an awesome deal on another jewelry set, but they are there in the box, are resizable, and they match perfectly! The dress comes sized for Maitreya, both Slinks, both Tonics, and all 3 sizes of Belleza.
So, as I’ve been doing, when I blog the hunt gift from a store, I like to do the write up on the store. I first found Moonstar by the Sea about a year ago when I bought an outfit at the then Fashion Dazzle Event, now just Dazzle Event. As I do when I find something I like at an event, be it a gift or great deal like the outfit I had purchased, I visit the store. If you’re a deal finder this is the store for you. Everyone who visits is given a gift to find somewhere in the store. There are several group gifts for the FREE to join group, as well as lucky letters and midnight/mini mania boards. If you’re a fan of the news and gift groups, there are several gifts for those as well, as well as a gift at The Free Dove. One other thing, there’s an affiliate area for Alli & Ali Designs (hair) that has a lucky letter chair for that. Last time I passed through it was a super cute Harley Quinn style. I’ve covered Moonstar a few times before, so there’s always the tag to check on this blog for more examples of her designs.
These shoes which just go beautifully are the hunt prize from Shoe-ddiction. I actually approached the designer of Shoe-ddiction when I blogged a purple awareness ribbon pair of shoes that she has at The Free Dove and asked if she would be willing to do a set for this hunt. She kindly agreed and came up with this bright, colorful, and happy pair of shoes in all the colors of the rainbow with an autism awareness puzzle design on the ribbon. She even added in Maitreya and Belleza sized shoes for us as the original awareness ribbon design shoe came only in Slink! I’m really grateful that she joined us at the last minute via request! It was very heartwarming to me. The Shoe-ddiction store’s group is FREE to join, and there is a male and female group gift available. There are 3 lucky letters which also cycle in some men’s shoes, as well as female shoe gifts for the Mesh Avatar Appearance Maniacs and Third Life groups. Shoe-ddiction also has a couple of gifts at The Free Dove, and is a regular participant in the mini-hunts.
Hit Redeux Yet?
Redeux is an event that you’ll want to subscribe to. Group members of the FREE to join group can scoop up over 40 gifts. Gifts are great, but it’s the sales you won’t want to miss! I was looking for something for my hair or face to fit my fairy theme when I decided to take a break and hit up Redeux. So, at the Spyralle Stall, I happened to notice that she had the entire “Spring Leaf Jewelry” set that I’ve had on my to buy list for months for only 50 lindens. That’s the necklace, earrings, and 2 bracelets, I immediately snatched it up. However, then I noticed this mask which was next to it, and is also 50 lindens and it was just so perfect for my fairy look that I grabbed it as well. There’s a HUD included with this Forest Edge Mask that offers you the choice of 4 metals and 6 leaf textures. I chose the texture that matches up with the Spring Leaf set, but if you’ve got any of Spyralle’s clothing with the gorgeous fractal textures, 4 of the choices match up with some of her most popular color combinations. Oh, and remember the gorgeous Owl Moon dress I wore here? My favorite one of the Owl Moon dresses is on sale for just 30 lindens, regular price 200 lindens! While this isn’t the prize from Spyralle, the Park Place store of Spryalle does have a lovely hunt prize for the Grow Your Awareness Hunt to be found!
The butterflies on my face are animated as well. I found them in that huge box of goodness that is the Dulce Secrets 2017 Collection for The Free Dove. My nail polish is from Mani-Pedi, and from one of the coolest collection ideas I’ve seen! There’s a series of palettes all based off of Crayola’s big 64 box, that I had in elementary school, and likely any other American reading this did as well. You can buy a single color group, like the greens I am wearing for 70 lindens, or you can buy the mega hud with all 8 palettes, and all 64 colors for 550 lindens.
The rest of my makeup, my skin, and my hair (free lucky chair win!) has all been blogged before, so consult the style card. I want to urge you to participate in The Grow Your Awareness Hunt, and to pass the generosity forward by helping at least one person with Autism feel safe, accepted, and included!
So, isn’t this gown just divine? It’s available by Papermoon Creations at this round of the Dazzle Event. I’m simply charmed by it, but… I’m not a girl wanting to get married again, and if that special someone does come along, it’ll be at the courthouse. So, instead of a fantasy story, I thought I’d give a story about my real wedding, in Las Vegas, NV. My gamble in Vegas may not have paid out in the very end, but I still loved my wedding! It wasn’t a drunken spur of the moment affair, we had actually planned it there and took 50 of our close friends and family with us.
One of my favorite memories, and indeed my favorite pictures from the wedding are of me walking across the casino floor in my gown to get the chapel. They are interesting and amusing for a few reasons, people stopping their glassy-eyed stares at the mesmerizing spins of the slot machines to watch my journey, slight smiles on their faces. Strangers calling out congratulations and well-wishes, including more than a few salty comments. In the pictures the contrast of the gaudy and bright casino against the elegant white of my gown. Maybe most memorable of all, was me being proud of the attention rather than the usual embarrassment of a whole bunch of strangers staring at me.
If a picture is worth 1000 words then a 7-second gift should be worth at least 7000. Everything pictured, with the exception of my ground flowers, makeup, and my jewelry is all included in the package, which sells for 750 lindens. This includes the base dress, which can easily be worn on its own after the big event. There’s 2 layers of additional skirt, a beaded and a glitter, both of which have 3 separate layers each; there’s also 2 layers of the veil, glitter and tulle, of which there are front and back pieces; along with the flower crown and flower for the veil attachment, and the bouquet. Wear it all or mix and match your way into your dream gown. Still pics just didn’t do justice to how simply gorgeous this dress is, so I hope you enjoy the gif above showing it off a bit. I did decide to show this off in a lovely setting after my casino jaunt. For some reason, I thought the placement and slight blur of the flowers made me think of Monet, whose paintings I happened to see while on a separate trip to Vegas at the Bellagio.
My jewelry just happens to be April’s birthstone, the diamond. This month’s release of the complete set of birthstone jewelry that Beloved Jewelry is featuring each month. For this month, the price for group members is just 50L, and non-group members 99L, and the Beloved Jewelry group is FREE to join! These sets contain 2 bracelets, bento ring (which comes set for right ring attachment but is easily moved to the left with changing attachment point to left right finger and then editing it into the right position), 2 pairs of earrings, hoops and studs, which are perfect for shifting a little for a double pierced look, as well as a choker, and a separate pendant necklace. The sweeten the pot, there’s also a texture change script for 12 metals options. I chose to model it in platinum. All the past month’s birthstones are still available if you missed out, but not at the discounted price. If you want this complete set of diamond jewelry for only 50L, head down to Beloved Jewelry, join the group (which includes regular gifts via notices) before the end of the month. Even if you did miss the past deals for your birthstone they are still quite low priced at 125 lindens for group members, and 245 for everyone else.
You may also notice this nail polish which is rather well coordinated with my lipstick. No, they aren’t actually from the same store, but one is FREE and the only is only 99L in a fatpack of 6 shades. Take a gamble and guess which is which? If you thought the nail polish was free, you win! This is a new gift set out at the Free Dove from Main-Pedi. There is a HUD of 6 shades in the 21st Century Fun fact about this set, it’s the very first set of polish that Mani-Pedi released! You can get in a little piece of SL history if you snag this set. You’ll need the Free Dove group to scoop this up, but the group is FREE to join. Pro-tip, if you like these shades, subscribe to the Mani-Pedi feed and bi-monthly gifts of new polishes. If you guessed the lipstick, you still win as 99L for 6 nude lips is a fantastic deal from The Little Black Dress. In the box are standard tattoo layer, Omega, Catwa, LeLutka, and Areruka appliers.
The rest of the wedding was interesting. No, we didn’t get married by Elvis, we got married in a lovely chapel by a man in a purple velvet robe though! Elvis was included in the reception, however, with my ex-husband giving a lip-syncing to totally horrid and hilarious Elvis impersonation. Nearly everyone in attendance ended up drawn in by the casino after the reception, and we made a big party around the nickel slots, a good choice since nearly everyone was drunk. That’s about all that’s really fit to share here on the blog, so I’ll leave you with the usual disclaimer, anything not mentioned in the writing has been blogged before, so consult the style card at the end!
^ 1st Pose by Po^Z “Euphoria 2 available in a set at Dazzle!” Side two are Belle Poses Miranda Series.
Hair: Truth “TRUTH / Farryn” – single color palette HUD – 250L
And the beasts, and the people, the plants and the trees
The land was affluent and all lived with ease
Her subjects had everything that they might need
And all were quite happy, quite happy indeed.
Forgive my poor at attempt at Dr. Suess fanfiction, all in good fun! Now, as most every other Dr. Suess story, there is a bit of a cautionary tale, moral, hidden critique of humans woven through Yertle the Turtle. Now, Yertle is a bad turtle king. Naturally, Missy the Human would be the queen of all queens; and if I were the queen of all I see, I would be in a very high tower of stone, not on the back of my subjects, turtle or otherwise. Therefore, my fantasy can end without a cautionary tale, as Missy the Queen is practically perfect in every way. Missy the human also brings you knowledge of several fantastical deals, some quite inexpensive, some not under 100 lindens, but between Missy Math™ and Missy desire, I have quite a bit to show off today, most, however, will be in annotated style card format.
Purple is the color of royalty, so when I saw this dress from Moonstar by the Sea as an exclusive at Dazzle, I was taken on this flight of fancy. Most that you see featured from neck to toe is included in the outfit; the necklace, the dress, and the strappy shoes. The dress is really something special, the texture of the main body is a gorgeous purple with golden flowers, and the edging is done in a subtly animated sparkle. Even with 3 pieces in this set, the price is only 150 lindens, and you know what that means in terms of Missy math since I love to be about that mix & match potential. The Arya Gown comes fitted for Maitreya, both Slinks, all 3 Bellezas with coordinating shoes for each. Since the shoes are hard to see peeping out from under the floor length skirt, and still photos just do not do justice to the sparkle, I captured a little gif on the graphics settings that I think most likely use for standard play. There’s also an absolutely fabulous rich jewel emerald green in crushed velvet version of this dress available.
I’m falling further and further behind on my blogs this month, so I request your forgiveness that the rest of the post will be in an annotated style card version, with pics of course!
Hair: Alli & Ali “Serene Hair, Ash” -Blondes pack 250L *I, however, got this as a special dollarbie Promo, which is now no longer listed as such, but was so perfect for my vision that I had to use it. But here you find my cautionary tale, it’s smart to check the Alli & Ali marketplace store often to watch for these low priced promos! Alli & Ali also has an exclusive this round of Dazzle, so don’t miss that either.
p.s. There’s also a stunning matching necklace for 200L, and 6 total gem colors in all.
p.p.s. Both were on sale last weekend for just 50L, reason enough to either subscribe to the Spyralle store and get all these sale notices, which includes occasional subscriber gifts, or to join the group for 250L and get all the gifts and perks!
Eyeshadow: Dulce Secrets “::DS:: Noble Thistle Eyeshadow” in the box “Dulce Secrets 2017 Free Dove Collection @ The Free Dove – group gift/group FREE to join.
Eye Gems: Dulce Secrets “::DS:: Noble Eye Ornament” in the box “Dulce Secrets 2017 Free Dove Collection @ The Free Dove – group gift/group FREE to join. *includes the diamond under the nose.
One of the perks of keeping my standard head is that I get to layer lipsticks to get custom colors. This works best when you use the same designer as they tend to have similar shapes, not always though, so try the demos if you want to simulate this technique. I prefer to add the lightest, most sheer one last to create the best blend. Oh well, you know, I also did the same thing with my eye makeup!
Lipstick 1: The Little Black Dress “*LBD* Damask Large Supreme Lipstick” which comes in a fatpack with 12 shades, 2 sizes of each shade large and regular, in classic avatar tattoo, omega, akeruka, Catwa, Lelutka – 149L
Lipstick 2: Little Black Dress “*LBD*Glossy Sheer Lipstick – Violet” – 149L (in fatpack with 12 shades for classic avatar tattoo and Slink Applier)
Nails: Dark Passions “Purple Rain”- group gift/group 100L to join
Belly Jewel: Beloved Jewelry-Emerald Bay Store“Beloved Jewelry “Mishka Belly Piercing(Texture Change/Pt Mesh)” -part of a complete set of Necklace, bracelets, earrings, and this belly piercing. It is an older creation of Miss Kimbra’s and has a texture change set that contains less, but different customizable options than the latest texture change C script does. I’m wearing it here in the etched gold 2 and amethyst options. It’s still fairly sonic drink math worthy though! I’ve mentioned to Kimbra a time or two that I would love to see these etched metals come back in some newer pieces! 425 lindens for the complete set, or between 100 and 185 lindens for individual pieces, this belly ring being 100 lindens.
I had just way too much fun when I designed this scene. I started with a camping scene that’s one of the scenes in my multi-scene skybox rental. I was able to turn off the picnic blanket and tent, just leaving this island with hills, a waterfall, a running stream, and opening to a lake. Perfect for what I had in mind. Then I went nuts putting out ground cover, long grass, fluffy grass, 3 types of regular flowers, and 3 colors of animated flowers! Then the animated trees, 3 different types and designers, with of one having multi-colored options. These I will be posting gifs of! All of it built around this Fairy Tale tower. I’ll probably be repeating this scene again. Now for the ground covers, I’m not 100% sure what is all actually visible in the entirety of my pictures, but I’m gonna list all that I used.
Multiple Flowers and Fluffy grass: Lunaria – group gifts/group FREE to join (I literally use these group gifts all the time. There’s the fluffy grass, and 5 separate flowers, there are also trees, bushes, trellises and archways available.) Great for builders!
Animated Flowers: Harshlands “[HL] Flower Field” – I used the cyan, mint, and gold, but there’s also a crimson in the box. Missy math applies! – 4 for 200L make that 50L each!
Ice blue lights tree with rotating bubbles: Sweet Revolutions “~*SR*~ Winters Hollow ~ Lights of Elune cm” past gift at January’s MidWinter Fair
Glitter Trees: Bad Katz “Glitter Tree Bent” –200L on the marketplace, set of 4 trees, green, gold, blue and red, and I used blue and gold.
Now that the last tree that I added and wasn’t part of the original skybox scene, I didn’t do justice to. I actually hurriedly grabbed the above picture for a more focused shot on normal graphics so that I could single it out, but it still doesn’t do it enough justice. But, there’s always the next post, since I will be using this again as it has poses! There’s a purple crescent swing chair to sit on. Sitting there didn’t fit my vision today, but it’s too cool not to use for another photo shoot. You can snatch a copy of this “= MB = MoonTree in purple, animated” at this round of Dazzle for 125 lindens from MB Content Creators, but no fear, it will be hanging around in the main store for 139 lindens after. If you visit the main store, you can consider joining the in world group for 35 lindens and keep up with the news and updates, as well as land yourself some regular group gifts.
So, you’re looking at about 3 days worth of work for me on this post! Not at all sure if you can tell, but I hope you can, an awesome new friend taught me a few new graphics settings that I think have much improved my pictures, and I can’t help showing off just a little over the journey I’ve made from taking pics on midday setting at 512×512 size! Now, I get to show off just a bit more by showing you some more of the included animations with the tower. No following style card this time, so let me just wish you happy shopping!
April is just an amazing month for fantasy lovers in Second Life and I am super excited. Most everyone in the fantasy/roleplay scene knows that the much anticipated Fantasy Faire is coming up in just a few weeks. However, here’s something else, Dazzle is also featuring Fantasies and Dreams in this month’s round! I know I’m going to be having a ton of fun this month with all these wonderful creations feeding my desire for the mystical, improbable, and creative adventures I crave in my Second Life. So, before I spend much of the month delving more deeply into roleplay, I thought I’d do a little-tongue-in-cheek bit, about what it would be like if, I, Missy, were a modern witch.
Missy the Modern Witch would definitely wear leggings and t-shirts! I’d be the type of witch with an herb garden, and I don’t see me bending in the dirt in some sort of flowy robe. I’d grow herbs (such as basil and parsley) and …herbs. The ellipses and the italics here making all the difference, whether or not the herb has any natural benefit of its own, the fact that it’s grown in my witches garden would, of course, make them all that much more effective. Or maybe, just because I, as a witch said so. Totally ripping this from Terry Pratchett and how the witches in Discword are so adept at headolgy. I would be a younger and hotter version of Granny Weatherwax if I were a witch.
Quite magically, I was able to charm the lucky boards at Oubliette to show an M, which netted me this fantastic pair of “Occult Slick Leggings” It may require a bit of patience if your magic isn’t particularly strong that day, but wearers of Maitreya, both Slinks, or all Three Bellezas, who are members of the still FREE to join Petite Mort & Oubliette VIP group can look forward to possibly winning their own pair!
Missy the Modern Witch would also definitely put up with less crap than Missy the mortal woman does. I guess it doesn’t really require me to be phantasmagorical to practice my bitch craft, which is a skill I only bring out for those who fully deserve it. Which, thankfully for me, is not a skill I practice often, although I have become quite adept at wielding this power when the situation demands, thanks to growing up with older, picky siblings, especially brothers. This totally amazing tee, which has magically brought me smiles since the day that I found it on a hunt at the Winter Solstice event last winter, is also a group gift at Oubliette! The “Bitch Craft Tee” comes sized for Maitreya, Hourglass, Physique, Venus, Isis, and TMP mesh bodies.
Missy the Modern witch would still wear a black brimmed hat, but mostly just to keep the sun off my pale skin while working in the ….herb garden. Pointy hats, however, I feel are for Halloween and Fairy Tales so a nice normal floppy hat will do very nicely indeed. My magic was finally able to overcome the rush at Pr!tty that immediately followed this recent suspension of group fees (still FREE btw!) I won this “Frost” hair by again charming the lucky board like I did at Oubliette. Since Missy the Modern Witch is magical, it was easy to strip all the color from my raven locks and rock this brilliant white. However, you don’t have to possess occult powers to change the colors of your very own Frost hair, as ALL of Pr!tty’s color HUDS are included. There’s also a skull bandana mask included, if for example, your powers are not yet strong enough to overcome seasonal allergies and your garden requires you to be outdoors! But, Missy the Modern Witch is definitely not bothered by such mundane things, therefore, I’ve no need to wear it.
I Would Always be Dazzling!
Missy the Modern Witch would be, unfortunately, still rather addicted to shopping, especially those exclusive and creative finds that exist. Maybe I could conjur money to spend instead of conjuring items? Even though I do work for the Dazzle event, and therefore have several items passed to me to blog each month. I do still shop there! Actually, I went a bit overboard this round, but it was all up my alley, and hopefully, most will be investments in keeping my pics fresh. I don’t ever want to fall into that rut of everything looking the same, even if I did use the same pose twice this time, sometimes, I guess, the wheel just doesn’t need to be reinvented. I’m wearing two things from this Dazzle round in this pic, well 4 I suppose if you count the jewelry pieces individually, since they are sold that way, and the fun dark apothecary coffin shelving is also from Dazzle. Maybe I should leave it a mystery as to which are Missy purchases and which are blogger boxes? I don’t want that to distract from my honest opinions on things, regardless if I spent lindens or not. Mostly, I buy from Dazzle because I have a personal moral to put my money where my mouth is, and I try to spread those limited dollars around. My, but I am rambling, I guess sometimes I just want to explain why I am a different sort of blog.
So when I did see this Dark Apothecary from MB Content Creators, I totally mentioned to the designer that I found it fun. She rebutted that it was supposed to be scary! Which caused me to counter with the point of being scared is fun! I’m still going to stick with fun! Even though, in my opinion, Missy the Modern Witch is far from scary, ok, that’s just because the thought of me being scary period is just laughable. But, I can still be mysterious. Plus, I love the idea of throwing in this ancient touch of the unknown and frightening with regards to witches, even if I’m a modern one! I’m really into the details of this piece too. The textured old wood, the ancient tomes of knowledge, the dodgy looking bottles filled with the distillations of my …herbs. My favorite aspect though, is the natural elements in the design, especially the flowering ivy with lights. I’ve always felt that Witches were more masters of the natural world and less about pulling things out of mid-air so to speak. This Dark Apothecary is exclusive to this round of Dazzle and can be purchased for 200 lindens! I also want to urge you to go check out the main store, there are some really unique things to check out, and I have my mind on trying out something I”‘ve never encountered before, a mystical experience of lights, of course, once these Spring induced rain migraines and sinus pressure headaches are in the past. Sigh, for sure, Missy the Modern witch would not suffer from those.
My Beloved, Kimbra, designer of Jewelry, has once again released a stunning set of cannatile work! The Thaliana set features these stunning spirals of the fine metal wire with swirls of even finer metal cannatile cascading from the main design. Even witches in stretch leggings need drama somewhere on their person. I especially love the huge bento ring, which covers nearly the entirety of my finger. I’m modeling it in pewter and tanzanite, but all the pieces in this 5 piece set, of which I’m modeling only the choker, necklace and ring in this post, have a texture change script for 12 metals and 33 gem choices. Each piece of the set can be purchased separately for the low price of 50 lindens each, exclusively this month at Dazzle. In case you were confused about what I did there in my first sentence, this is of course about Beloved Jewelry.
Ok, I will admit, my last Dazzle detail wasn’t a blogger box, and thank goodness because I got zero good pics of it! It’s been a long time since I bought myself a new manicure, and I will admit it’s mostly laziness, it’s too easy to just pick something from my hands and feet utility hud (and then I don’t have to write about it either, *blush*.) But I rather liked the exclusive from Mani-Pedi at this round. I snagged it, as it’s full of those things that catch my eye, sparkly, jewel tones, multicolored and unique. To purchase from the Mani-Pedi Stall touch the item, then chose which hud you’d like either Maitreya, Omega, or Slink, and then click again to pay. This Dreamscapz set comes with 6 options in the color palette and sells for 70 lidens.
OH, But the Shoes!
I bet you didn’t know that Missy the Modern Witch traveled back in time and subconsciously influenced Dalriada of MOoH to give out 150L gift cards as a gift each month did you? Oh, but I did, so that when I then consciously joined the group, and consciously started this blog, I could use that gift card to buy whatever I desired then blog it using magical Missy Math to get each item under my definition of cheap! Anyway, I had to have these “Poppy” Tip Toe Ballerina shoes, they are 199 lindens, but with my monthly VIP gift card, I got them for 45! The shoes come rigged for Belleza, Maitreya and Slink and there’s a really big hud to customize various areas of the shoes. There are other benefits to the MOoH! group of course, all of which I have talked about a bunch! The group is 100L to join. If you head down there, don’t forget the two hunt items which are hidden, one of which is the “Missy” sweater from the Grow Your Awareness Hunt. I just love that name, don’t you?
Missy the Modern Witch would be much like the real me, in that I believe in reusing and recycling, therefore, there are several other little details in this blog that have been seen and blogged before, sometimes all the time. Which leaves me to sign off the usual advice, anything not written about has been blogged before and the credits are listed in the style card.
Hair: Pr!tty “Frost” – Lucky Letter Prize! (group temporarily FREE to join!)
This piece is based loosely on the Italian fairy tale Catherine and Her Destiny. Melissa’s mother was given the choice in my tale and her choices affect how Melissa’s fate is determined. Melissa, however, learns how to take destiny into her own hands with a little magical assistance. Lovers of Jane Austen will also note that this is an imagining of Pride and Prejudice as a fairy tale.
One day Destiny appeared to the daughter of a successful attorney. Destiny asked the maiden if she would rather be happy in her youth or in her old age. The girl, unable to envision herself as old, chose youth. Soon the maiden met a handsome, wealthy, landed gentleman who became enamored of her beauty and lively spirits. He begged for her hand in marriage, and they soon were wed, elevating her sphere in society. He carried her off to a fine estate in the country where they lived merrily and had many children.
One day, when the woman was about thirty, she was again brought to bed. After many hours of struggle, the mother was left weak and torn, and the babe, a large boy, was stillborn. The woman had never before experienced sorrow. She was mean of understanding, further having spent her youth in frivolous diversions she had little education and was unable to cope. She developed an uncertain temper and fancied herself with a nervous disposition.
But the sorrows had only just begun. Over the years the income of the estate began to steadily fall, disaster after disaster came to their lands. In her attempts to console herself she spent more than they could afford; even using up her daughters’ dowries, which would aid them in securing men of worth as husbands. One day her sons had been out visiting the tenants when a violent wind blew a tree into the tenant’s house, crushing it, killing them all. Eventually, her own husband withdrew his affection and only encountered her to tease and torment.
In a dreadful bitterness of spirit, the woman climbed to the top of the nearby Oakham Mount and cried out to Destiny. Destiny appeared and informed her that she would one day grant her a measure of peace through the marriages of her daughters. However, in return, one of her daughters would receive the mother’s destiny, happiness in youth but not in old age; and another would receive the opposite. The woman, thinking only of herself, chose her youngest to live out her destiny, and her least favorite daughter, the second eldest, to live out the opposite. She felt it would bring her comfort to witness the happiness of her youngest, and not vex her too dearly to witness her second eldest suffer.
The woman returned home and called the two daughters before her and explained her bargain with Destiny. The youngest, who was the image of her mother, exclaimed that it would be grand. She confidently and assertively declared that she would enjoy her youth, vowing she would be the first of all her sisters to marry. The second eldest, who was of superior intellect, listened carefully to what her mother had said and began to plot.
Destiny was true to her word. The youngest daughter was pampered and petted, receiving anything she wished. Tragedies and sorrows followed the second eldest. But Destiny had miscalculated, for the second daughter, Melissa, had a strength of spirit that did not allow her to remain unhappy for long. Destiny tried harder, and one day after having Melissa insulted by a wealthy, handsome lord, nearly succeeded.
The next morning Melissa traveled to the top of Oakham mount to confront Destiny. When she reached the summit she called out and Destiny appeared before her.
“Destiny, it has been several years now, do not make me continue to suffer for the choices of my mother. Please, please allow me to see some happy days.” Melissa humbly requested.
Destiny did not want to completely relent, but she was moved by the manner of Melissa’s request, which even in its simplicity was utterly charming. She decided on a compromise. She reached into her pocket and withdrew a magical book, which she handed to Melissa.
“I will not relent easily,” Destiny declared. “I will still send events to plague you, and I will cause confusion in your mind to hide the opportunities for happiness. However, I will give you a magic book to help. Read it, and it will show the way to find happiness.”
Melissa thanked Destiny. She noted the book was named Kismet before she placed it in her reticule. She descended Oakham Mount determined to read as soon as was possible.
The book was indeed magical, each time she opened it something new was written on the pages. Some days it held novels, others poetry, others philosophy, the possibilities were endless. On the day she went to an evening party at a neighbor’s home, where the arrogant lord was also in attendance, it was a collection of wise, old sayings. She read faithfully every day, searching for answers on controlling her own happiness, but found it contained none. Destiny still seemed in control. Melissa didn’t realize how what she read was not only increasing her knowledge but was influencing and shaping her conversations with others enhancing her already charming manners.
One day her beloved older sister fell ill at a neighboring estate. She went to nurse her sister and took the book with her. She even read it while spending an evening in the drawing room with her hosts. That night it contained the observations on the picturesque, which gave her some personal satisfaction when she was able to recall it in as a way to beg off a situation obviously meant to exclude her, saving face. Yet still nothing improved; the arrogant lord remained critical of her, leading to a few confrontations, which while disguised as playful banter in her opinion were rather factual and cutting. Her mother arrived to check on her sister’s health and vexed and embarrassed her with her display of nerves and ignorant statements. The ladies of the house, while maintaining a cold civility, attempted at every opportunity to show how inferior she, as lesser poor gentry, was to the lord and his connections and continued to look down upon her.
The days after she and her sister returned home she did not have a chance to read. Her foolish cousin came to visit and her mother was continuously demanding that she be in his company. During this time she met a charming, handsome militia officer who seemed much taken with her and she wondered if Destiny was tricking her about the book. The first good thing to happen to her was on a day she hadn’t read it! She vowed not to read again for several days. Therefore, Melissa did not read before attending a ball at the neighboring estate. However, on this day, nothing good happened. Her favorite militia officer did not attend, she was forced to dance with the arrogant lord, and her family, excepting her older sister, made an absolute spectacle of themselves.
The next day she carried the book with her, determined to see if it would tell her how to find her happiness. She hadn’t yet opened it when at breakfast her cousin demanded a private audience and proposed marriage in a most insulting manner! She refused. When her mother found out she abused her dreadfully and ran to her husband to force Melissa’s acceptance. In desperation, Melissa pulled out the book and read while her mother was in with her father. To her surprise, it only contained three words “I have, Sir.” She used these exact words when her father called her into the study to discuss the marriage proposal. To her relief, he did not make her marry her cousin.
Melissa, in her agitation over the events, did not realize she had spoken the words from the book. Therefore, she did not read the next day. Her sister received a note that her beau had left the country! When Melissa did again read the book, she discovered her favorite militia officer had transferred his attentions to a young heiress. Angry at Destiny having tricked her, she hid the book away in a drawer, convinced of its uselessness.
Over the next few months, she only opened the book twice, because at times it really did have interesting reading. On the first day, her Aunt and Uncle invited her on a pleasure trip. On the second, a friend she had quarreled with came to invite her to visit her new home in another country at Eastertide. Nonetheless, after that day, the book sat in the drawer for several weeks, where she found it while packing for her trip. On a whim, she decided to bring it with her.
A few weeks into her visit, she became bored and took out the book to entertain herself. That day the hateful lord who had insulted her came into the country and even went as far as to call upon her. Irritated, she didn’t read it again for a week, when once again she was compelled by boredom. She read it on the days they were entertained at the nearby great manor where the hateful, arrogant lord was residing. She read it on the days she only walked in the park, often encountering the arrogant lord. She did not read it the morning a colonel gave her knowledge of the arrogant lord’s role in interfering with her sister’s romance with his friend. That night the arrogant, hateful lord shocked her by offering an even more insulting marriage proposal than the first she had received. She abused him verbally while she rejected him, despite his elevated status and great wealth. She was flabbergasted that he loved her, for she was sure he always looked at her with disdain. After the emotional encounter, she read the book in order to calm her mind for sleep.
The next morning the arrogant lord gave her a letter. As she read it she remembered how Destiny had told her that she would be plagued with unhappiness due to her own mind. Oh, how blind she had been! Her vanity due to being insulted had led her to a prejudice against the lord which shaped her opinion of their interactions. She realized that Kismet had been leading her to happiness with the handsome lord, and she had seen only Destiny’s tricks. She vowed that she would read the book daily from now on. Destiny knew that she could no longer fool Melissa into doubting the book’s power. However, Destiny was not yet willing to surrender. She still had some control over events.
Melissa never again failed to read the book every day. Destiny and Kismet continued to battle over Melissa’s happiness. Destiny felt she scored a victory over shortening Melissa’s pleasure trip, but Kismet only smiled and set the destination to the handsome lord’s country. Destiny countered by arranging for the handsome lord to be away, so Kismet had the lord’s steward send him a letter urging him home early. Angered, Destiny pulled her nastiest trick yet, combining Melissa’s fate with that of her youngest sister, and arranging for her to scandalously elope with the handsome man’s enemy, the same deceitfully charming militia officer that once captured Melissa’s attention. They resided together yet unmarried. This would ruin her family’s reputation, and ensure that they would be shunned by all society.
Destiny was proud of her genius. She could keep the mother to the original bargain, as this scandal would ensure that none of her daughters would ever marry. This would also keep Melissa at home with her vexing mother, ensuring she would be unhappy until her old age. Destiny was smug and decided she had earned a rest.
Kismet did not relent, she worked constantly to allow Melissa happiness, including allowing the handsome lord to hide the scandal and ensure Melissa’s sister’s marriage to the reprehensible militia officer, and that the marriage was in all ways respectable in the eyes of the society. When Destiny realized this, she caused the handsome lord to doubt Melissa’s regard. Kismet countered by arranging the betrothal of the eldest sister to the handsome lord’s friend, guaranteeing Melissa would always be thrown in his path. Destiny retaliated by spreading a rumor to the handsome man’s aunt. Surely, thought Destiny, he will give up all hope in the light of his family’s displeasure in the match. Enraged, the aunt traveled to Melissa’s country to confront her.
That morning Melissa had read a story in her book that gave her confidence in a way that emboldened her spirit and sharpened her mind. When the Aunt arrived, Melissa did not relent to her arguments and countered them admirably and intelligently. She would not promise to refuse to marry the handsome lord and had even praised him by saying that any wife of his would have no cause to repine.
Angered, the Aunt immediately went to the handsome lord, and complained about Melissa, giving the full details, including Melissa’s audacity to praise him, as if she were his equal. The handsome lord listened attentively and began to feel hope that just maybe Melissa did have high regard for him now. The revelations spurred him to return to Melissa’s country and see if he could observe this regard himself.
The handsome lord did return to Melissa. After some timid encounters with each other, one morning they set out on a walk towards Oakham Mount. During this walk, they finally became engaged to be married. They continued walking once they had settled upon their future, absorbed each other’s company, and soon were at the top of Oakham Mount, where Destiny appeared to Melissa.
“Melissa,” said Destiny. “As you have found happiness in your youth, I am no longer your destiny, for it is now determined that you will live happily ever after.”
And she did.
I sincerely hope that you enjoyed my retelling of a fairy tale and a beloved novel. I haven’t included a fictional story in my posts in quite a while, and it was always something that I had intended to do. However, I do always talk about the clothes. But this will be a rather long blog post if I do my usual in-depth discussion of them. Once again I will be providing an annotated style card with all the details.

In case you were ever wondering what the seemingly nonsense are in the Laverne & Shirley theme song, they are actually Yiddish. Shlemiel meaning a stupid, awkward, or unlucky person, and Shlimazel being a close synonym at a consistently unlucky or accident-prone person. I love that show, I remember watching reruns as a kid, and always laughing. Even though Shirley always had Carmine as a boyfriend, it always seemed an immature relationship, even to me as a kid. Of course, that immaturity was very obvious with Shirley’s attachment to Booboo Kitty. Fun fact about Booboo Kitty’s origin. It was originally a blooper, when Cindy Williams forgot her line about dust bunnies, and pulled out a stuffed cat from under the bad and called it the name of her mother’s cat, Booboo Kitty. Everyone loved it and it eventually turned into Shirley having an actual relationship with the stuffed toy. Not that Booboo Kitty wasn’t awesome, it was. Gotta love this commercial of Shirley and Booboo Kitty from Nick at Night!
Really Rockabilly! Has a recent release, I would say new, if I hadn’t been a Shlemiel and got it blogged earlier! These hot little shorts and bustier in a fantastic black and pink design are covered with Booboo kitties! The matching mesh scarf is included. It comes in tons of sizes:
Slink -Physique and Hourglass
Tonic Fine and Curvy
Belleza -Freya, Isis, and Venus
I totally love it! I’ve been waiting for a great summer Rockabilly look, and of course, always love anything whimsical. Zef Brody, the owner, and designer for Really Rockabilly always teases me about my breast size, and I remembered the above commercial from Nick at Night long ago, with Shirley stuffing her dress, and while mine isn’t stuffed, sometimes I feel people view my avatar that way! FYI, Really Rockabilly! is a designer for the Grow Your Awareness Hunt that I am organizing for April.
My shoes I’ve blogged before, and I think I remember mentioning that the Alyce Slink Mary Jane’s had an RGB hud that is included as well as the HUD of colors and patterns. If I didn’t then I was remiss, they have it! Zef was kind enough to give me the RGB for the pink in the Booboo kitty outfit design so I was able to perfectly match these fun retro shoes. That RGB is red 185, green 68, blue 89, hue 349, sat 46, lum 50. Of course, I picked the black laces and heels on the hud, as the choice was either black or white, no rgb here.
My hair is unavailable, I picked it up as a gift at an event last winter, and couldn’t find it in the store or mp, and a notecard to the designer remained unanswered. It was a blonde hair, but I wanted to note that Tameless often allows hair to be colored via the edit screen so I was able to choose black and transform the blonde into my usual color.
Everything else, except my glasses, has been blogged before, and I want to talk about my glasses. I started an in-world group for my blog, for chat, sharing of freebies and deals, and a little clubhouse. In the clubhouse, I have set up a photo booth, with colored lights, 3 different spotlights to make those fun shadows that turn off and on, and a pose stand with over 300 poses. Additionally, if you ask in chat, there’s a sits and a stands pose stand that myself can help you with if needed for some pics! All the information for the Grow Your Awareness Hunt is located here, along with group joiners for a few groups that specialize in freebies that I discuss, such as FabFree and The Free Dove. But the best part is that I designed these special shiny mauve glasses, with metal studs as a group gift. Hop down to Missy’s Getaway, enjoy the furniture, the photo studio, and pick up these glasses for yourself! They are copy and modify so you can get the perfect shape, or shade them darker if you wish. The group is FREE to join, making the glasses FREE, and the use of all 300+ poses for your pics FREE! Now there’s no excuse not to head down to The Free Dove, pick out an outfit, head to my photo studio and snap a pic and post it to my Facebook and get a care package from me!
The actual tale that’s as old as time here, is that once again I’m posting a post with hours to go to snag the majority of what’s here. I debated it, but I was so completely enchanted with the gifts on the Enchantment hunt that even though I finished late last night, I’m on bright and early this morning to pound this post out so it can be both praised, and give you a few hours to rush it! So I figured instead of my story or ramblings about the stores and why I love something, I’m just going to do one of my annotated style cards. I know, I know, I’m the pits, but if I have a handsome 40+ male reader, I’d accept a spanking for my bad behavior.
