Honey, Don’t

Snapshot_245.pngMy parents were raised in the Mississippi Delta area outside of Memphis, the time and stomping grounds of Cash, Perkins, and Presley; my parent’s farms were about 5 miles from the Cash Family’s in Dyess, Arkansas.  This has undoubtedly left its mark on me.  Growing up this is most of what I heard playing on the radio. I love the music, and I love the style.  I don’t often go full Rockabilly babe.  I am still *mostly* conservative (looking), but I do wear cat-eye glasses every day in real, and most days in the game.  As I said when I started the blog, I don’t have a “type”, I just am who I am, and if I like it I like it. That said, there have definitely been some strong influences on my preferences, and this early exposure to rockabilly music is one.

Have you ever discovered a shop in Second Life where you just wanted to walk out with everything? I suppose I should be glad I prefer small shops!  It was like that for me when I found Really Rockabilly! I did manage to restrain myself to a couple of outfits, shoes, two hairs, and glasses (that time,) this jumpsuit and shoes were acquired on that first shopping trip.

Well, how can you say you will, when you won’t
You tell me you do, baby, when you don’t?

Technically, most of this outfit is not free, there are parts that are, but only one thing breaks my rule of remaining under 100 lindens to still qualify as cheap, and that one just barely goes over the line. On the other hand, this item gets used far more often than the others, so I’m more than getting my money’s worth.  But, don’t worry, I will still send you down the path of finding even more deals than what I’ve chosen to post, and even the freebie is only part of an outfit!

♪ Well, I love you, baby, and you ought to know
I like the way that you wear your clothes ♪

“Zef’s Rockabilly Cherries Jumpsuit” is one of the best appliers item that I have.  The lines are straight, the texture looks like real cloth, the bunches are realistic and in the right spot, and it’s just smokin’ hot! The jumpsuit is only 95 lindens and comes with system layer, Omega, and Maitreya appliers. “Zef’s Rockabilly Cherry Shoes” are a perfect match. They come sized for Slink, Maitreya, and TMP.  These are the ones that break the 100 lindens threshold at 109 lindens.  Of course, you’ve seen these glasses perched on my nose in just about every post I’ve made.  “Zef’s Catty Horned Rim Birth Control Specs” are one of my most favored items that I’ve purchased to date. No awkward fuzzy glare to hide to my eyes, they just highlight them.  You can pick these up for 99 lindens.

All of these items are priced the same on the marketplace as in the store, but visiting the store in world offers some perks the marketplace doesn’t.  There is group gift outfit for joining the FREE group at the front desk of the shop.  There is also a dollarbie black and orange dress in standard sizes right on the front desk. If you wander upstairs you’ll find some of her older stuff for FREE, and some other deals ranging from 10-75 lindens, including a dance floor.  Look carefully at these deals, some are standard only.

I also suggest wandering the sim, and I somehow doubt I’ve found all the goodies.  At the Ace Cafe there are some more FREE and dollarbie items, and at the English Pub, you’ll find a FREE drunk AO.  There are several neat little niches for photography if you want vintage, like an Elvis church, pubs, diners, a tattoo parlor, bowling alley, and old garage and a few others I’ll leave for you to discover.

♪ You’ve been out painting the town
Uh huh baby, been stepping around ♪

I could have done a complete head to toe look all from Zef Brody, but now I’ve got 50 linden or less items to show you, and there is, of course, the fact that I’m “mix-match” Missy!  So, I’d better be doing some of that.  My hair is from the bargain department at Truth.  I’m wearing “Josie 2” which I picked up in the Black &Whites color pack for just 50 lindens. I’m wearing the “black & whites 06” from that pack. If you’re not a fan of the pompadour ponytail look, you can also pick up “Josie” which is the victory rolls with the hair down in the back.  If you want more color options than just one pack, there is a variety pack for 100 lindens, or the full pack for $250.

My earrings and hair bow are items I found on the marketplace for 50 lindens apiece.  The earrings actually come in a set of necklace, charm bracelet, and earrings. The “Dabble Dooya Cherries Charm Jewelry Set” looks much better in game than it does in the Marketplace add, it’s also mod and copy, so you can copy the original and resize and tint the set to your heart’s content.  You can pick up the set for 50 lindens here.  I’m not wearing the bracelet and necklace this time, as I opted for a leather bolero.

The “Vintage Cherries Hairbow” I also grabbed for 50 lindens. However, the day I bought it I had just searched for a hair bow, and didn’t realize that you can get a full copy/mod outfit with 3 dresses, shoes, bow, bracelet, earrings, and necklace for 99 lindens.  I’m pretty much kicking myself for not searching the store when I picked it up. I learned a lesson by mistakenly believing that ATIA didn’t have an in-world store, but I’m fairly sure this one is gone, I checked the designer’s profile and she has marketplace links on it.  So it seems the info on the purse set in-world is outdated!  I’m feeling like an investigative journalist for you all now!

Heels and red lipstick will put the fear of God into people – Dita Von Teese

I have several red lipsticks but lately, I seem to keep going with the dollarbie sample that The Little Black Dress has in the marketplace right now.  It comes in 2 sizes for a variety of appliers and standard tattoo.

Since I think the best rockabilly looks pair bold with simple, I’ve just applied a bold eyeliner to match my bold lips.  Dug into the “Soft Focus Eyeliner fat pack” that I picked up at ATIA for 88 lindens (with 8 different liner styles inside) and chose option 5.

Nails are from that bottomless box of gifts from Hello Dave! Located in the VIP 100s pack there is a pallet called “Fade to Black” and even though it’s an ombre, at least on my nails, I think it resembles a red and black reverse french manicure.

Finally the Freebie!

My black leather bolero jacket comes from Lara AC, and is the gift for the Sexy Shoppers group.  The Sexy Shoppers group costs 1 linden to join, but there is a whole store of freebies if you’re a member, and various gifts at other stores, like this one from Lara AC.  The jacket is just part of the Sergia outfit” which also comes with black jeans and a  tube top in 5 standard sizes.  Also, at Lara AC there are gifts up for many of the news and gifts groups across Second Life, it’s worth a trip to get more than just my leather bolero!  Which fits, even though I am assuredly not a standard size on top because it ends above the breasts!

There you have it, just one of my many Rockabilly looks, and most of it is quite cheap! And if you’re feeling curious, you can check out a “cheeky pic “I took wearing the jumpsuit another time that’s on my flickr, for a pretty good view of the…ahem, back.
